Island Winter Vacation -- Dreevay Tours

Sunny skies, with temperatures in the mid- eighties, sandy beaches, and  warm friendly people. Great  sumptuous meals is but an added bonus. Trinidad and Tobago, the twin island Republic is well known for its Carnival, but there is much more to these islands. I spent a few days in Tobago, which is quieter in contrast to the business of the sister island, Trinidad. A popular early morning activity Tobago is ‘pulling seine’. Fishermen go out into the sea in the early hours of the morning, around 5am to cast their nets, than a couple of hours later they haul in the catch. Some days the catch can be pretty large, but there are days when it is barely enough for one meal . Everyone shares in the haul. Taking a hold of the rope, which feels like you are in a tug-a-war, will guarantee you a share in the days catch. Even the seagulls get their share. The catch on this day was small, but there was such a feeling of gratitude among the fishermen. I am reminded of the

Fall in my neighborhood I truly love the Fall. The weather is perfect, and with it’s kaleidoscope of colors the atmosphere feels so mellow. My very first visit to Georgia was back in the Fall of 1989. The pilot’s approach in Atlanta’s  airport took us over Stone Mountain Park. My senses were in overload. I had never seen anything that beautiful before. Each year I look forward to this lovely season. Fall in my back yard A couple weeks ago, I was in Europe, and was blessed to experience this glorious season outside of the United States. Nature does not discriminate.  She blesses us all with her gifts. Fall @ Buckingham Palace in London, England  The Gardens of the Champ Elysees Avenue in Paris, France. Fall in Paris, France. I am reminded of the words of a song I learnt as a child,   ‘My country’s skies are bluer than the oceans,   And sunlight beams on Flamboyant and Pine. But other lands have sunlight too, and oceans And skies are s

Getting ready for another beautiful weekend in my neck of the woods. It’s time again to hit the outdoors. My last visit to Helen Ga was so good, I am seriously considering a visit again this coming Sunday. Saturday would be great as well, though there is the possibility of rain. Sunday, on the other hand, looks great!  Harbersham Winery in Helen GA One of my favorite stops in  a trip to North Georgia is the Habersham Winery. I  try to limit my wine tasting, whenever I am the designated driver. My favorite wine is the White Muscadine. There are also lots of other interesting things to purchase @ the Winery, and  after all that shopping, an impromptu picnic in the gazebo can be very relaxing. The Island woman  in me is always drawn to  water, but I decide against go tubing , as the water was a bit cold. I could not help wishing that I was at one of the beautiful beaches in Trinidad and Tobago. Maracas Bay There are so many to choose from, but

Flowers and Music lift our moods. {The Poui tree in bloom in Trinidad} These past few weeks we have been inundated with the news of massive destruction and so many lives lost, from hurricanes in Texas, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, earthquakes in Mexico, wild fires in California, and mudslides in Sierra Leone. I addition we are bombarded with wars and rumors of wars.  It was time to move away from the TV and hit the outdoors. {Fall foliage in Helen, Ga}  Last Saturday with this in mind, together with a couple of friends, I headed to Octoberfest in Helen, North Georgia. The weather was beautiful, with the leaves of the tress changing, and the diversity of  the people revealing all of God's creation in their absolute beauty.   I was particularly drawn to a young man in his mid-twenties with no feet, probably as a result of a congenital deformity. He was dancing with complete abandonment, and of course it helped that he knew all the steps, be it the Electric

Re-treat yourself to a fresh start with Dreevay Tours

I spent an awesome two days last weekend with a group of fabulous women. We were on a retreat @ Carmel Retreat Center in North Georgia .  A retreat is both an experience and a place. It’s a time to recharge, and become re-energized. Our problems do not magically disappear while we are away on retreat, but this time away seems to somehow help us to deal a little better with these problems. I have been going on retreats all my adult life, and one of my favorite retreat locations is the Abbey at Mount Saint Benedict, in Trinidad. It is situated at the top of a mountain in the North West of the island. The route to the Monastery is up a long and winding road, but once you get to the top, the view is worth the drive. If you are not up to driving, a shuttle service is available.  Most people do a visit for one day, or maybe even half a day.  In addition to the church, there is a guest house, a gift shop and a small cafeteria. When I do visit, I like to pack a

Basking in the Nylon Pool, Tobago The Nylon Pool in Tobago, is one of the wonders of the world. The Pool is an area of  crystal clear water about one half of a mile in diameter and about 3 meters deep, which sits in  the middle of the ocean. Join me on my Winter Tour to Trinidad and Tobago and experience this phenomenon. Tour Date: December 14th, 2017
